Schwaben Children

The Schwaben Children

The train of the so-called "Schwaben Children" began centuries ago. It all started in Schwabenland through the Habsburger, which owned land in southern Germany, which was later known as "Vorderöstereich". In the 17th century the curators of these regions were all in Innsbruck!

Work in the Distance

Every year large numbers of children between the ages of 7 and 17 moved towards Bodensee and Oberschwaben.

They worked there for food and lodging and became a small Obulus, often times for new clothing.

The Last Centuries

The children who came out of western Tirol and passed St. Christoph would go back to the chapel to get a talisman.

They would carve a piece out of the Christophorus that stood behind the chapel.
